The heat is just starting to come back here in Phoenix, and there’s nothing that screams “BEACH” much like 90-degree temperatures in March!
Thankfully, I got to spend one of my first crazy-hot weekends at the Arizona Aloha Festival, celebrating the culture of which the best beach parties are themed. Although I wasn’t personally on the sandy pacific island shores, the festival was definitely the next best thing!
Here I am stopping for a photo on a bridge overlooking the festival, midway through some incredible Hawaiian shave ice!
I ventured out Food Network’s Anthony Bourdain style with Joshua Wakamura, a Hawaiian native who just made the big move from the palm tree clad island to our sandy desert city.
Check out my podcast below on what the festival meant to him, and my infographic on how to make one of Hawaii’s famous coconut-lovers dessert, Haupia!
